If you're planning a trip to Bozeman, Montana, this 4-day itinerary has everything you need—from epic hikes and breathtaking mountain views to a day exploring Yellowstone National Park and one of the most unique places to stay in Montana.
Bozeman is the perfect base for experiencing Big Sky, Hyalite Canyon, Yellowstone, and some of the state's best restaurants, all while enjoying the laid-back charm of a mountain town.
In this guide, I'm sharing our exact itinerary, including where we stayed, our favorite hikes, where to eat, and tips to help you plan the perfect Montana adventure.
Why Visit Bozeman, Montana?
Bozeman is one of my favorite summer destinations in the U.S (we visited in July). It combines incredible hiking, scenic drives, charming downtown streets, and easy access to Yellowstone National Park.
Some of my favorite things about Bozeman include:
🏔️ Easy access to Yellowstone National Park & Bozeman airport
🥾 Incredible hiking trails
🌼 Wildflower-filled alpine meadows during the summer
🦬 Wildlife viewing
🌲 Scenic mountain drives
🛍️ Charming downtown Bozeman
🚠 Easy day trips to Big Sky
If you're visiting in the summer, expect warm days, cool evenings, and ideal hiking conditions.
Where We Stayed: Bodhi Farms
One of the highlights of our trip was staying at Bodhi Farms, a luxury glamping retreat just outside downtown Bozeman.
Set on a beautiful working farm, Bodhi Farms offers safari-style tents, mountain views, peaceful walking trails, an on-site spa, and the incredible Field Kitchen restaurant—all just 30 minutes from Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport.
It was the perfect place to unwind after long days of hiking and exploring, and I genuinely couldn't imagine a better home base for this itinerary.
Day 2: Hike Hyalite Peak & Explore Hyalite Canyon
After breakfast at Bodhi Farms, we headed to Hyalite Canyon, one of the most scenic areas near Bozeman and home to some of Montana's best hiking.
We chose to hike all the way to Hyalite Peak, and it ended up being one of the most rewarding hikes of the trip. The trail winds through forests, past waterfalls, and alongside Hyalite Lake before climbing above the treeline to panoramic views of the surrounding mountain ranges.
Hyalite Peak Trail
🥾 Distance: Up to 15 miles round trip (Hyalite Lake is a shorter turnaround option)
⏱️ Time: 7–8 hours
📈 Elevation Gain: Approximately 3,400 feet
⭐ Difficulty: Challenging
If you aren't looking for a full-day hike, you can turn around at Hyalite Lake for a shorter adventure while still enjoying incredible alpine scenery.
On the drive back, be sure to stop at Palisade Falls, an easy waterfall walk just minutes from the road, and take in the beautiful views around Hyalite Reservoir.
We ended the evening with dinner at The Field Kitchen at Bodhi Farms. The farm-to-table menu features fresh, locally sourced ingredients, and the peaceful setting overlooking the property made it one of our favorite dinners of the trip. Reservations are highly recommended.
Day 3: Yellowstone National Park with Yellowstone Luxury Tours
No trip to Bozeman is complete without spending a day exploring Yellowstone National Park. Rather than driving ourselves, we booked a private tour with Yellowstone Luxury Tours by Natural Retreats, and it was easily one of the best decisions we made.
Our guide, Heather, picked us up early at Bodhi Farms at 5 am and created an unforgettable day exploring Yellowstone's most iconic sights while also sharing fascinating history, geology, and wildlife facts throughout the drive.
Some of the highlights included watching Old Faithful erupt, walking the colorful boardwalks around Grand Prismatic Spring, visiting the dramatic Lower Falls at the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, spotting wildlife throughout the park, and stopping at several scenic overlooks that we never would have found on our own.
One of my favorite parts of the experience was not having to worry about driving, parking, or planning the route. Heather knew exactly where to go, the best times to visit each stop, and where we had the best chance of seeing wildlife, allowing us to simply enjoy the day.
If it's your first time visiting Yellowstone, I can't recommend Yellowstone Luxury Tours enough. Having a knowledgeable local guide completely elevated the experience and made our day in the park one of the highlights of our entire Montana trip.
Dinner at Copper Whiskey Bar
After returning to Bozeman, we ended the day at Copper Whiskey Bar and Grill, one of the city's most popular spots for elevated comfort food, craft cocktails, and an impressive whiskey selection. The cozy atmosphere made it the perfect place to unwind after a full day in Yellowstone.
Some of their most popular menu items include:
🥩 Steak Frites
🍔 Copper Whiskey Burger
🧀 Truffle Fries
🥗 Wedge salad
Whether you're celebrating a day of adventure or simply looking for a great dinner in downtown Bozeman, Copper Whiskey Bar is definitely worth adding to your itinerary.

Tips for Visiting Bozeman
✨ Rent a car—it's the easiest way to explore Bozeman, Big Sky, and Yellowstone.
✨ Start hikes early to beat the crowds and afternoon thunderstorms.
✨ Book popular restaurants and tours in advance, especially during the summer.
✨ Pack layers. Even in July, mornings and evenings can be chilly.
✨ If you're visiting Yellowstone, I highly recommend booking a guided tour. It made the experience so much more enjoyable, and we learned far more than we would have exploring on our own.
Final Thoughts
Bozeman quickly became one of my favorite mountain destinations in the United States. From hiking to Hyalite Peak and exploring Yellowstone National Park to relaxing at Bodhi Farms, every day offered a new adventure.
If you're looking for the perfect mix of outdoor adventure, incredible scenery, and unique places to stay, this 4-day itinerary is a great way to experience the best of southwest Montana.
